intermediate court

noun
a court for which there is both an inferior and a superior court; in the Australian states (except Tasmania which does not have an intermediate court), a court superior to a magistrates court but inferior to the Supreme Court, usually with some civil jurisdiction and with criminal jurisdiction over all but the most serious offences.
